GENERIC RENTAL QUESTIONS

Do you have Lockers?
For an additional cost, lockers are available for personal items during your rental.

What documents do I need to rent?
For all our rentals we require a government issued ID (i.e. a passport, driver’s license, identification card) and a credit card. While we can hold an American Express for the deposit, we do not accept AMEX.

Do you charge anything on the card held for deposit?No, we just physically hold the ID and credit card while you are out on the water. You can pay cash, or card when you return.

What are you hours of Operation?
Our hours of operation are seasonal and weather dependent with closing times based on the sunset! Please call us for updated hours of operation.

Where are you located?
We are located on the North end of Santa Clara Point at 1010 Santa Clara Pl, San Diego, CA 92109.

Is there a minimum amount of time I must keep the equipment?
All our rentals are a minimum of an hour then we prorate to the closest 15 minutes.

Do you give group discounts?
Please give us a call regarding our group discounts!

Where do I find your pricing?

Do I need to know how to swim?
All activities are aquatic based so plan accordingly. Lifejackets are required on any and all equipment.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes, you can bring your dog! We do not provide life jackets for the dogs.

Will I get wet?
All activities are aquatic based so plan accordingly.

How old do I have to be to rent equipment?
We need someone 18 or over to rent the equipment after that it is up to their discretion.

Yes, however it is available on a first come first serve basis. During peak

Do we need to make a reservation?
No! We have almost 200 stand up paddleboards. Grab a friend and come on down!

Do I need to know how to paddleboard?
No, our staff would be happy to give you some instructions and pointers before sending you out.
Do I need a lifejacket?
While you are more than welcome to bring your own lifejacket, it is not necessary. We have lifejackets for all ages and sizes.
Where can we paddleboard?
You can paddle anywhere in Mission Bay but most of our customers stay right here in Sail Bay.
Can I take the paddleboard off premises?
Yes, however you are responsible for transporting the paddleboard.
What is your damage policy?
You are responsible for any and all damage to the equipment, or any damage occurring to other equipment caused by the use of the paddleboard during the rental period.
Will you deliver the paddleboard to me?
All paddleboards must be taken from our premises and returned to Mission Bay Sportcenter.
What if we get lost?
Before you go out in Mission Bay, we recommend taking a look out our map that is available at our dock. If you are lost, please call our office at 858 488 1004. If it is an emergency, please call 911.

KAYAKS

Do we need to make a reservation?
No! We have almost 200 stand up paddleboards. Grab a friend and come on down!

No, our staff would be happy to give you some instructions and pointers before sending you out.

Do I need a lifejacket?
While you are more than welcome to bring your own lifejacket, it is not necessary. We have lifejackets for all ages and sizes.

Where can we kayak?
You can paddle anywhere in Mission Bay but most of our customers stay right here in Sail Bay.

Can I take the kayak off premises?
Yes, however you are responsible for transporting the kayak.

You are responsible for any and all damage to the equipment, or any damage occurring to other equipment caused by the use of the kayak during the rental period.

What if we get lost?
Before going out in the bay, we recommend you take a look at the map of the bay. If you get lost, please call our office at 858 488 1004. If it is an emergency, please call 911.

Do you have single and double kayaks?
Yes! We have both single and tandem kayaks.

Can I take an infant on the kayak?
It is not recommended, but you can take an infant on board a kayak.

SAILBOATS

Do we need to make a reservation?
We recommend that everyone make a reservation for any activity to ensure that your rental is reserved. You can do that by clicking here

Do I need to know how to sail?
While we recommend you have a little bit of sailing experience, we do not require any kind of certification or experience.

How many people does it fit?
Depending on the size of the sailboat, they range from 4 to 8 people max.

Can we drink alcohol on the sailboat?
Yes, you can!

What if we get stuck?
Please give our office a call and we would be happy to assist you. If it is an emergency please call 911.

Is there a training that needs to take place?
If you have never sailed before, that’s okay! We have an instructional video that will make you confident in your ability so quickly learn how to sail.

What size sailboats do you have?
We have 3 different size monohulled sailboats ranging from 14’ to 22’. We also have 2 different size catamarans from 13’ to 18’

PONTOON BOATS

What is the max capacity?
The max capacity for our pontoons are 10 passengers.

Do you provide a captain?
No, you are responsible for driving the pontoon yourself.

How fast do they go?
Our pontoons go anywhere from 10 to 15mph depending on weight and water conditions.

Do we need a reservation?
We recommend you book a reservation over the phone at 858 488 1004 or online here

Can we bring our own food and drinks?
Yes! We just ask that you refrain from glass, dark red liquids and chips if possible.

Is alcohol allowed on the boat?
Yes, alcohol is permitted on board, but the driver does have to stay under the legal limit.

I have an infant, can I bring the child aboard?
All ages are welcome on our pontoons just keep in mind each child/infant does count towards your total capacity.

Do I need training on how to drive it?
No! Our staff will go over everything you need to know before you leave the dock.

What if we get lost?
Please review the map of Mission Bay located on our dock so that you leave the facility with basic knowledge of the bay. If you get lost, please call our office at 858 488 1004. If it is an emergency, please call 911.

JET SKIS

How many people are allowed on one jetski?
The max capacity for our jetskis is 2 people or the manufacturer’s recommended weight capacity.

How fast do they go?
Our jet skis go anywhere from 30 to 40mph depending on weight and water conditions.

What is the rental process?
We always require someone 18 or over on the jetski . A child as young as 13 can drive if someone 18 or over is accompanying them. You will need your ID out on the water with you as well. Once you are done with the rental paperwork, you will be instructed to watch a short instructional video, then proceed to the jetski.

The jetskis can go anywhere in Mission Bay. They are not allowed in the channel leading to the ocean or the ocean itself.

Can I ‘jump’ the jetski?
No! You are required to stay 100’ away from other vessels.

Can I bring an infant on a jetski?
No

Are there speed zones?
During the months of May 1st – Oct 31st, Sail Bay will shut down to 5mph from 11am to 5pm. During this time renters are required to operate in Fiesta Bay which is an open speed zone all of the time.

POWER BOATS

How many people can be onboard?
Our powerboats can accommodate 6 to 8 people maximum depending on the boat.

Can we go wakeboarding/waterskiing?
Unfortunately, no we do not offer any sort of towing packages on our equipment.

Can we bring our own towing equipment (i.e. inner tubes, wake boards, water skis)?
No.

How fast do they go?
Our powerboats go from 30 to 40pmh depending on weight and water conditions.

Can we bring food and drinks?
Yes! We just ask that you refrain from glass, dark red liquids and chips if possible.

JET BOARD

How old do you have to be to fly on the Jetboard?
You must be at least 8 years old to fly the Jetboard, and a waiver must be signed by the guardian of the child.

Do I need to be trained on how to fly?
Yes, our certified instructors will be coaching you throughout your entire experience.

Do I need to wear a lifejacket?
Yes, we will provide you with a lifejacket

Is there wetsuits I can rent?
Yes, we have wetsuits available for rent for only $5!

Is it hard?
Flying the jetboard is easy! Our staff are experts at teaching anyone on how to fly.

How does it work?
The jetboard is attached to a special jetski using a 4” hose that pushes the water from the jetski to the board, enabling you to have the power to fly!

How high can I go?
Your instructor will analyze your flying skills in order for him to feel comfortable putting you up higher and higher. If you are stable and are comfortable we will increase the height. Typically first timers will reach 5’-10’ feet in the air. If you purchase the longer flight times, you may be able to go higher.

What shoe sizes does the jetboard fit?
We have all standard boot sizes from kids to large adults.

How long does the experience take?
We suggest setting aside about an hour for the 15 minute flight time. If you choose longer flight times, the time at our location will increase.

What do I wear?
Please bring a towel and a bathing suit. If you would like a wetsuit, we can provide you with one.

Is it safe?
Yes! Everything that you will be attached to floats so it is very safe.

Is there a weight limit?
Yes, there is a 300lb weight limit on the Jetboard.
