Launch straight from our beach into protected Mission Bay water.

All of our catamarans are kept on our private beach directly behind our facility in Mission Bay. Our staff can assist with shoving off and landing the catamarans from the beach into the warm waters of Mission Bay.

Because you are sailing inside Mission Bay, there is no surf to worry about during launching and landing. The protected, lake-like conditions make this one of the easiest places in San Diego to enjoy a small catamaran rental.

Questions before you sail?

Do we need to make a reservation?
Reservations are recommended for all activities so your rental is reserved for your selected time. You can book online through the booking button on this page.
Do I need to know how to sail?
We recommend having some sailing experience, especially for a catamaran like the Hobie Wave. No sailing certification is required, but you should be comfortable following staff instructions, safety guidance, and Mission Bay rules.
How many people does the Hobie Wave fit?
The Hobie Wave Catamaran has a maximum seating capacity of 2 people. If you have a larger group, the Hobie Getaway is a better choice.
Can we drink alcohol on the sailboat?
Please ask our staff about current alcohol and safety rules before departure. Any alcohol use must follow Mission Bay rules, safe boating expectations, and rental policies.
What if we get stuck?
Please call our office and we will be happy to assist you. If it is an emergency, call 911 immediately.
Is there training before the rental?
Guests complete safety information and boat checkout before the rental. If you are new to sailing, our instructional video and staff guidance can help you understand the basics before getting on the water.

Mission Bay Sportcenter offers monohull sailboats ranging from 14 feet to 22 feet, along with catamarans including the Hobie Wave and Hobie Getaway.
